Village of Orfordville Utilities
|
Orfordville Public Works Department
The Public Works Department is comprised of three full-time and three part-time employees. Jim Shumway has been with the village since 1978. His primary responsibility within the department involves parks and street maintenance. Jerry Amundson began his service with the village in 1979. Jerry operates the Wastewater Treatment Facility for our village. Our water supply system is maintained and monitored by David Fuller who has been employed by the village since 1990. Although they each have individual responsibilities they are skilled in working together when the need arise. The department's part-time employees are instrumental in assisting in various areas of the Public Works Department.
Some of the equipment owned by the village includes a street sweeper, wood chipper, leaf vacuum, construction tractor, sludge truck, van, and 3 dump trucks equipped with snow plows and sanders. They also maintain over 8 miles of streets, 4 parks, 8 buildings, and several miles of water & sewer mains. Bi-annually the village conducts yard waste removal services for its residents. One week in the spring and fall are dedicated to collecting grass clippings, leaves, garden waste, and brush. All other times of the year the department maintains a yard waste drop off site at the waste water treatment plant.

Water and Sewer
The water utility has two wells to supply the village with water. A new well was constructed in 1995 to accommodate expansion, and was drilled to a depth of 950 feet. The well also has an emergency back-up power supply. The second well was reconstructed in 1997, and was drilled to a depth of 715 feet. The two combined have the capability of 13,000 gallons per minute. Both wells supply the utilities water tower that has a 300,000 gallon capacity.
The wastewater treatment facility was constructed in 1979. The plant operates as an activated sludge system. The plant has a designed capacity of 398,000 gallons per day. The current average daily flow is 130,000.
Water and Sewer Bills
If you move from your present residence, call for a final reading of your water meter before the new owners move in. If you have any problems with water or sewer utilities during normal weekday hours, call 879-2004 or 879-9212 for service. If you have problems during weekends, holidays, or after 5pm weekdays, call 751-1477 for service.
Drop Box
For your convenience, a drop box for water bills or other payments is located on the front of the municipal building at 106 N. Center Street.
High Water Bill?
A high water bill may indicate you have a leak. Even a small leak can waste enough water for you to notice an increase on your bill. Fix your leaks promptly to avoid paying for them each month.
