Regular Board Meeting

CALL TO ORDER

                President Dennis Burtness called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m.  Present were President Burtness, Beth Schmidt, Nikki Tuffree, Terry Gerber, and Jason Knox. Also present were Tayna Burtness, Librarian Sarah Strunz, Chief Jeremiah Burdick, DPW Director Nick Todd, and Clerk Sherri Waege.  Absent were Chuck Boyce and Cami Myers-Alstat.

AGENDA VERIFICATION

                Clerk Waege verified that on October 6, 2023, copies of the agenda were delivered to the President and Trustees; and posted at the Village Hall, Library, and the Orfordville Post Office.  There were no additions made to the agenda.

MINUTE APPROVAL

                Motion by Knox, seconded by Gerber to approve the September 25, 2023 Regular Board Meeting minutes.  Motion carried.

CITIZENS WISHING TO BE HEARD

                President Burtness explained that Dan Loomis, owner of Dipsticks Food Truck, contacted him and has graciously offered half of his income from sales in November to be donated to  the Fire and Police Departments.    Dipsticks will be set up across from the Village Hall every Tuesday in November from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 

                 Schmidt explained that the Lions Club will have a Night on the Trail Walk, which will be a family event, on Friday, October 20th from 4:-00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The walking trail is located behind the Village Hall and will be lit with luminaries and pumpkins for the walk.  There is no cost to attend, flashlights are encouraged, treats will be given out.

                Gerber explained that the Orfordville Lutheran Church will have their annual Lutefisk Dinner on October 28, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

                Fire District Contract.    Clerk Waege explained that the State Statute only pertains to the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands, so it will not affect the payment date in the contract.  Motion by Tuffree, seconded by Schmidt to approve the Fire Protection Agreement.  Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS

                Public Works Recommendation to Hire Snow Plow Help.  DPW Director Todd explained that Luther Johnson contacted him to see if he needed additional help for snow plowing.  Johnson has his Class A CDL and is available during the winter months.   DPW Director Todd explained that Johnson would be used when additional help is needed for larger snow events.   Motion by Gerber, seconded by Tuffree to accept the Public Works Committee recommendation to hire Luther Johnson for snow plowing help as needed.  Motion carried.

                Amend Ordinance 304 Trailer Parking.    President Burtness reviewed ordinances from the City of Janesville, Evansville, Brodhead, and Footville.   President Burtness didn’t feel a change needed to be made at this time.  No action was taken.

DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS

                Chief Burdick explained that the county had a computer issue and he was not able to access his information until late today.  

                DPW Director Todd explained that he did not have a report because his computer was down.   DPW Director Todd will email it.

                Motion by Tuffree, seconded by Schmidt to approve the Department Head Reports.  Motion carried.

VOUCHERS

                Motion by Knox, seconded by Gerber to approve the vouchers with a range of 36237-36265.  Motion carried.

ADJOURN
